As with all of nature’s cycles, change is inevitable. Today we are honouring a once-in-a-lifetime transition in the Lunapads/Aisle story: our groundbreaking co-founders Madeleine Shaw and Suzanne Siemens are moving on from the company’s operations.

When it comes to period poverty, reusable menstrual products have an essential role to play in achieving universal, sustainable menstrual equity. The Aisle team has created a new free resource for student government leaders and administrators looking to learn about how to tackle period poverty on campus.

Given the non-negotiable role that menstrual management also plays as part of the human fertility cycle, many of us are eager to see whether British Columbia’s move is a harbinger for the inclusion of menstrual products as part of a similar plan.

New changes to the Canadian Labour Code mandate that federally-regulated workplaces must provide menstrual products to their workers. To support employers as they navigate these new regulations, Aisle has published a whitepaper titled “Menstrual Equity in the Workplace: a roadmap to success and sustainability”.

Living in an era of climate emergency, we all want to do what we can to make a difference. However, as consumers it can be challenging to identify greenwashing (false implied claims about sustainability) or which choices are more truly green than others. 

Sustainability and transparency are two important value pillars for Aisle. While many of our efforts are ongoing (such as our commitment to being a top ranked B Corp and conducting a Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) of our products’ environmental impacts) we also do an annual Impact Report, which includes our social impact and menstrual equity projects.
