3rd grade update- Week of January 2nd

  • We will have a chicken nugget lunch on Wednesday January 4th.
  • We will have a variety lunch on Wednesday January 11th.
  • The second semester milk payment is due on Monday January 9th
  • Third grade will oversee the Mass on Friday January 13th. They will be doing the readings, petitions, and offertory gifts. Since not every child can get a part in the Mass, I will be picking names out of a hat. Please practice your child’s part with them at home next week. The other students may get an opportunity in the future.
  • The second quarter will end on Friday January 20th. Report cards will be distributed on Friday January 27th.

Math-  This week we will be starting division. The math journal entry/math maintenance was due on January 2nd. There will not be a math journal due on Thursday. They will get the next journal entry on Friday January 6th. Keep in mind that these assignments each count as a quiz grade. Missing one week ‘s assignment could seriously affect your child’s math grade.

Reading- The reading skill/ strategy is sequencing events of a story. The grammar skill will be combining predicates of two sentences into one using the word and. The tests will be taken on Friday this week. The test will cover vocabulary, sequencing, combining predicates, and the weekly spelling words.

Religion- We will start a new chapter this week. This chapter will cover how God is all-knowing and all-powerful. Later this week I will be selecting students to participate in Mass next Friday. The students will review their part for Mass next week.

Science- The students will conduct an experiment to discover light energy. We will be having a quiz on light and heat energy next week. There will a test on everything from this quarter before the end of the marking period.

Social Studies- We will play a game to review urban, suburban, and rural communities. The test will be on Thursday January 5th.

  • The last day for the NJHS Toy Drive is December 14th
  • Please sign and return your child’s mid quarter report as soon as possible. Thank you in advance.
  • The students will need to bring in their gifts for Secret Santa on Friday December 16th
  • We will have a variety lunch on Wednesday December 14th.
  • The Christmas Pageant will take place on Wednesday December 14th at 7pm. Students need to arrive in their “Sunday best” at the church at 6:45.
  • We will have a TAG day on Thursday December 15th and Pajama Day on Friday December 16th.

Math-  They will then take a multiplication test on Monday December 12th. The test will cover 0-12 times tables. The Tenmarks assignment must be completed by Monday December 12th. The assignments can be found on the website (tenmarks.com). The ninth math journal entry/math maintenance will be due on Thursday December 15th. This journal entry will need to be written into the composition book. Keep in mind that these assignments each count as a quiz grade. Missing one week ‘s assignment could seriously affect your child’s math grade.

Reading- The reading skill/ strategy is making inferences. The grammar skill will be future tense verbs in a sentence. The tests will be taken on Thursday this week. The test will cover vocabulary, making inferences, future tense verbs, and the weekly spelling words.

Religion- We will finish chapter 11. The test will be on Thursday December 15th. We will review on Wednesday December 14th.

Science- The students will conduct an experiment to discover light energy. Over the next few weeks we will be discussing different types of energy.

Social Studies- We will continue to work on the types of communities. This week we will discuss urban communities. The communities project will be due this Friday December 16th

  • The Blessings Bags need to brought to school by Friday December 9th
  • We will go to the Kris Kringle Shoppe on Tuesday December 6th
  • There will be a chicken nugget lunch on Wednesday December 7th
  • There will be another Krispy Kreme fundraiser starting on Thursday December 7th. The money will be due on Wednesday December 14th.
  • Mid-quarter will go home on Friday December 9th. Please sign and return them to school on Monday. Thank you in advance.
  • A permission slip will be going home to participate in Secret Santa. The slip is due on Thursday December 8th. The students will need to bring in their gifts on Friday December 16th

If your child has not already begun their Tenmarks assignments, they must have them completed by Monday December 12th. The assignments can be found on the website (tenmarks.com). The eighth math journal entry will be due on Thursday December 8th. This journal entry will need to be written into the composition book.

Reading- The reading skill/ strategy is cause and effect. The grammar skill will be past tense verbs in a sentence. The tests will be taken on Friday this week. The test will cover vocabulary, cause and effect, past tense verbs, and the weekly spelling words.

Religion- We will start to work on chapter 11. This lesson will focus on the birth of Jesus. The test on this chapter will happen before Christmas Break.

Science- The students will conduct an experiment to discover light energy. Over the next few weeks we will be discussing different types of energy.

Social Studies- We will continue to work on the types of communities. This week we will discuss urban and suburban communities. The communities project that will be due on Friday December 16th
